While we do our best to give an honest opinion of all dogs that need re-homing, it must be stressed that all too often details which accompany these recycled Ridgebacks are at best sketchy and sometimes incorrect. However, below are photographs and brief details of just a few of the dogs that are looking for new homes. You will detect from the many blank spaces below that we are awaiting a lot of photographs! It would be extremely helpful if owners trying to re-home their dogs could provide a photo of the dog needing re-homing. These should be emailed to Derek Smith (click on his name to send an email) or failing that posted to Janice Ellis who will supply her address after initial telephone contact on 01889 508295.
Zanzi - Currently in Kennels Age 6 Years Female Few details of Zanzi are known to us at the moment. Apparently she is wary of some men and will probably be best suited to a quite home. Do you have one of those? 25th July 2010
Alfie Age 5 Years Neutered Male Keera Age 2 1/2 Years Female Both Currently at Home At the moment we have only sketchy details of Alfie and Keera. We are informed that both are of good temperament and are good with children, visitors and other dogs. Hooch Age 6 Years Male Ruby Age 7 Years Female Both Currently in Kennels Due to their owner having to work abroad, Hooch and Ruby are in need of a new home. Nell - Currently in Kennels Age 5 Years Female Nell has been with us for quite a few weeks now, has the sweetest nature and is friends with everyone at the kennels. She has not been offered for adoption before because of some medical problems. When she came to us she had badly infected ears and was constantly rubbing her face. With the use of the prescribed medical treatment, we now seem to be getting on top of this and there has been great improvement in her condition. While this treatment will need to be continued for some time yet we feel that she is now ready for a new and caring owner. Kellsy Age 5 1/2 Years Female Madison Age 6 Years Female Both Currently at Home Due to a change in their owners circumstances Kellsy and Madison are looking for a new home. From the information we have Kellsy has no problems with children, cats, dogs or receiving visitors. Madison, while possibly a little more excitable similarly appears to have no hang ups. These two have lived together since they were puppies, if at all possible we would like to re-home them together. Lola - Currently in Kennels Age 3 Years Female Lola has proved to be an excitable girl but has responded well to confident handling. She will need to be re-homed as an only dog and will need an experienced owner to take the role of pack leader. She cannot be re-homed with small children since she is worried by them. Updated 2nd July 2010 Lola is likely to need an experienced owner. We are informed that she is not good with other dogs, cats or other small animals and is worried by small children. Mika - Currently in Kennels Age Approximately 8 Years Female When Mika first came to us she had a large mass protruding from her underside. This turned out to be an Inguinal Hernia which has now been operated on and repaired. She was also spayed at the same time. She has recovered well from her operation and is now looking for a new home. She is very strong and will need an experienced and knowledgeable owner. For More Details Call Janice on 01889 508295
Twister - Currently at Home Age 8 Years Female Due to a change in her family circumstances Twister is having to be left for up to 8 hours a day, with the result that she is wetting in the house. She is used to teenage children and is normally quite settled and happy to go off into her own room to rest. As with a lot of dogs she does not like fireworks. Can you offer her a permanent home? Ruudi - Currently at Home Age 2.5 years Neutered Male Having been re-homed by his previous owner, sadly it is not working out. Ruudi is once again looking for a new home. This handsome boisterous chap is coming from a family of 2 young children but does not like the childrens' friends, so is best suited to a family without children. Recently Re-Homed Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Should you feel that you are not in a position to be able to offer one of these dogs a home it is possible to help in other ways. Various events are arranged each year in support of Rescue including a Christmas Party and Spring/Summer Fun Day. Fun and games are the order of the day at both events with good food and social ridgeback chat in abundance. For the more adventurous there is even a chance to take part in agility; no, not for humans, just the dogs, have you seen our committee!!!!

Apart from supporting these social occasions you may alternatively, or indeed as well as, like to make a monetary donation to Rescue funds. This can be made as a one off payment or a monthly payment for which a standing order can be set up. Should this idea tickle your fancy please contact our treasurer -

Club policy dictates that:-

• We will NOT re-home a dog known to be vicious.
• We prefer males not to go where there are small children, unless we know they have already lived happily with children.
• We do NOT allow males to go where there is another male of any breed, as jealousy and rivalry can lead to fighting.
• Re-homed dogs are NOT  to be bred from and any pedigree or registration documents will be retained by Midlands & Northern Rescue.

Taking on an adult Ridgeback can be very rewarding for both parties. Experience shows the vast majority of adoptions are happy and successful. Few dogs are un-trainable and will respond to firm sensitive handling coupled with kindness and affection. Once you have gained their confidence and respect they will reward you with affection, loyalty and a great deal of enjoyment.
