Ridgeback Rescue

RESCUE APPEALDemands on the financial resources of Midlands & Northern
Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue continue to grow. During 2007 over 80 ridgebacks
were re-homed, some being less than three months old! Many had experienced no form of socialisation or leadership leading
to lengthy and costly rehabilitation, while being maintained safely
in commercial kennels. Some, while not requiring
rehabilitation need the safety of kennels, either because they can
no longer stay at their current homes or are picked up as strays.
Those of us that have used the services of
commercial kennels know that it is not a cheap exercise.

| Rhodesian Ridgebacks Needing New Homes | |
| While we do our best to give an honest opinion of all dogs that need re-homing, it must be stressed that all too often details which accompany these recycled Ridgebacks are at best sketchy and sometimes incorrect. However, below are photographs and details of just a few of the dogs that are looking for new homes. | |
|
Lenny - Currently at Home Age 2 Years Male While Lenny is good with people, he and his Rottweiller girlfriend have fallen out subsequent to his castration! Consequently he is now looking for a new home. |

Simba 2 - Currently at Home Age 2 Years Male Simba's case is a particularly sad one. Having been involved in an accident his owner is no longer in a position to care for him properly. More Details to follow. |

| Ruby - Currently at Home Age 14 Months Spayed Female We are in formed that Ruby is good with people and children of all ages, a very happy girl who is responsive to commands and eager to learn. She is good with dogs and cats she knows - but will snap at dogs she doesn't know. She does chew when left alone, but is cage trained. A typical youngster with plenty of energy she would probably best be re-homed with someone who can be with her for most of the time, certainly in the early months. |

Name 2 - Currently at Home Age 9 Years Male We have only brief details of this "Old Boy", not even his name. He is in need of a new home because his family are moving to accommodation that wont accept dogs. He is used to living outside since he has done so since he was two years old. Can him love and affection in his twilight years? |

Petra (Was No Name) - Currently at Home Age 8 Years Female Sadly, Petra's owner has died and his immediate family can't take her as they already have three dogs of their own. We are told that she has the sweetest of natures. Can you offer a cosy spot for her remaining years? |

| Mea
- Currently at Home Age 2 Years Female Mea currently lives with another ridgeback, a 4 year old female. They have taken a dislike to each other and so now Mea is looking for a new home. Despite the differences between the two girls Mea may be OK with other dogs. We are informed that she is fine with children. It should be noted that Mea does suffer with a Dust Mite allergy. |

| Sasha
3 - Currently
at Home Age 3 to 3 1/2 Years Approximately Female Having recently been re-homed by her previous owner, sadly it didn't work out. Sasha is once again looking for a new home. Reported as of good character she has previously shared a home with a family including three children. She is a bit "gappy" missing some front teeth after a less than perfect landing when jumping a fence! Sasha has an intolerance to gluten, so she will need to be fed a gluten free diet. |

| Duke
- Currently at Home Age 8 Years Male Due to a change in his current family's circumstances Duke is looking for a new home. We are informed that he is a generally good natured boy accepting children, other dogs and strangers without any problem. Can you offer this old boy a comfy bed? |

Should you feel that you are not in a position to be able to offer one of these dogs a home it is possible to help in other ways. Various events are arranged each year in support of Rescue including a Christmas Party and Spring/Summer Fun Day. Fun and games are the order of the day at both events with good food and social ridgeback chat in abundance. For the more adventurous there is even a chance to take part in agility; no, not for humans, just the dogs, have you seen our committee!!!!
Apart from supporting these social occasions you may
alternatively, or indeed as well as, like to make a monetary donation to Rescue
funds. This can be made as a one off payment or a monthly payment for which
a standing order can be set up. Should this idea tickle your fancy please

Club policy dictates that:-
Taking on an adult Ridgeback can be very rewarding for both parties. Experience shows the vast majority of adoptions are happy and successful. Few dogs are un-trainable and will respond to firm sensitive handling coupled with kindness and affection. Once you have gained their confidence and respect they will reward you with affection, loyalty and a great deal of enjoyment.
If you need help or advice we are only a telephone call away.
