RIDGEBACKS LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME - Updated 14th January 2012

RESCUE APPEAL UPDATE -  11th March 2010

Over the last year, despite a lot of dogs needing kennelling and medical attention, rescue funds have remained on a pretty even keel. Once again, this has been due, in no small part, to the efforts of our friends and supporters all of whom we thank unreservedly. Of late the number of dogs in need of re-homing has increased dramatically, as no doubt will the associated expenses. It would be greatly appreciated if those friends and supporters who have helped in past years, are able to  continue in their efforts to provide funds for the unfortunate dogs that need our help. Of course anyone else who would like to involve themselves would be most welcome.

Thank you all; the dogs still need us, but we and the dogs most definitely need you!

If you would like to help by making a cash donation or setting up a regular standing order, please contact:

Rhodesian Ridgebacks Needing New Homes
Can you offer one of these unfortunates a second chance of enjoying a loving home? Do you have room in your heart and your home to offer that second chance? Should you feel that you do then please contact our Rescue Co-ordinator Mrs Janice Ellis on 01889 508295 or Club Secretary Mrs Jackie McCarthy-Booth on 01772 453677 and/or fill in and post an application form which can be printed from the link below.

Application Form For Potential Owners
While we do our best to give an honest opinion of all dogs that need re-homing, it must be stressed that all too often details which accompany these recycled Ridgebacks are at best sketchy and sometimes incorrect. However, below are photographs and brief details of just a few of the dogs that are looking for new homes.

You will detect from the many blank spaces below that we are awaiting a lot of photographs! It would be extremely helpful if owners trying to re-home their dogs could provide a photo of the dog needing re-homing.

These should be emailed to Derek Smith (click on his name to send an email) or failing that posted to Janice Ellis who will supply her address after initial telephone contact on 01889 508295.

Riot - Currently at Home
Age 14 Months
Male

We only have the sketchiest details of Riot. Living in a multi-dog household Riot is destructive when left to his own devices. At his age he will need an experienced owner.

Do you have the experience to quell a Riot?

Rudi
Age 4 1/2 Years
Male

Dillon and Rudi came to us as kennel mates. Dillon appears to be the leader and is a little more outgoing of the two. They have lived with older children, teenagers.

While we would like to re-home them together, we appreciate that this may not be possible and would consider re-homing them individually.

Do you have room for this dynamic duo?

Johnson - Currently in Kennels

Johnson appears to a lovely boy apart from one thing, he's a hooligan!

Having had no training, Johnson will need an experienced owner who can school him in the ways of the social graces; manners!

Are you equipped for the challenge?

Reds - Currently in Kennels
Age 18 Months
Male

When Reds first came into kennels he was very wary of everybody and everything! Happily now that he has got to know them, he is now trusting of the kennel staff and very willing to please.

Reds is still wary of strangers however and will need an experienced owner  prepared to deal with him in a sympathetic manner.

Do you have the required experience to give Reds a second chance?

We have been asked by the RSPCA to help in finding Ellie a new home.

She apparently was abandoned by her previous owners and suffers with arthritis in some joints. It seems she is not great around other dogs but has lived with cats. Updated 21st July 2011

Having been re-homed once, directly from their original owners home, they proved to be somewhat unruly and too strong for their new owner as a pair. They are now in kennels with us.

They will probably be better re-homed individually and have been separated in preparation for this. Of course should you be an extremely experienced and knowledgeable dog person, we may still consider re-homing them together.

Updated 24th October 2010

Due to a change in their owners circumstances Kellsy and Madison are looking for a new home.

From the information we have Kellsy has no problems with children, cats, dogs or receiving visitors. Madison, while possibly a little more excitable similarly appears to have no hang ups.

These two have lived together since they were puppies, if at all possible we would like to re-home them together.

Do you have the space for these two girls?

Mika - Currently in Kennels
Age Approximately 8 Years
Female

When Mika first came to us she had a large mass protruding from her underside. This turned out to be an Inguinal Hernia which has now been operated on and repaired. She was also spayed at the same time.

She has recovered well from her operation and is now looking for a new home. She is very strong and will need an experienced and knowledgeable owner.

Ruudi - Currently at Home
Age 2.5 years
Neutered Male

Having been re-homed by his previous owner, sadly it is not working out. Ruudi is once again looking for a new home.

This handsome boisterous chap is coming from a family of 2 young children but does not like the childrens' friends, so is best suited to a family without children. Not so keen on other dogs or cats too!

Immaculately clean and vaccinated.

Recently Re-Homed Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Should you feel that you are not in a position to be able to offer one of these dogs a home it is possible to help in other ways. Various events are arranged each year in support of Rescue including a Christmas Party and Spring/Summer Fun Day. Fun and games are the order of the day at both events with good food and social ridgeback chat in abundance. For the more adventurous there is even a chance to take part in agility; no, not for humans, just the dogs, have you seen our committee!!!!

Apart from supporting these social occasions you may alternatively, or indeed as well as, like to make a monetary donation to Rescue funds. This can be made as a one off payment or a monthly payment for which a standing order can be set up. Should this idea tickle your fancy please contact our treasurer -

Club policy dictates that:-

Taking on an adult Ridgeback can be very rewarding for both parties. Experience shows the vast majority of adoptions are happy and successful. Few dogs are un-trainable and will respond to firm sensitive handling coupled with kindness and affection. Once you have gained their confidence and respect they will reward you with affection, loyalty and a great deal of enjoyment.

If you need help or advice we are only a telephone call away.
