ELLIE’S STORY
It’s
been a year since Ellie came into our lives and can’t believe the difference
she has made to us, for the better. Before she found her ‘forever home’,
Ellie had had 3 previous owners, through no fault of her own, and for most
of her life had been living outside on a concrete floor with not even a rug
to lie on and keep warm.
My husband Andy had always wanted a Rhodesian Ridgeback after seeing one as
a child and on one of our early dates he showed me all his books on the
breed which he had collected over the years – it would have been a deal
breaker if I didn’t like them! When we got married, we decided it was the
right time to bring a ridgie into our lives, especially as we both worked
opposite shifts and there was always one of us at home. We discussed the
pros and cons of taking on a puppy or going down the rescue route but I was
concerned that as we were inexperienced and the breed was known as
strong-willed and stubborn we might be taken on too much. However when we
spoke to Janice Ellis and met Dorothy and David Grayson Wood from the club
who had 4 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, we knew we could give a good home to a
rescue.
Janice
contacted us when Ellie appeared on the site and said she would be a good
match for us. When we first met Ellie, she was very timid, especially with
Andy but her tail wagged slightly so it was love at first sight for us and
we knew, in time, that we could make her feel more secure and confident.
She settled with us immediately and now her tail is always wagging extra
hard, clearing everything in its path! She fits into our life so well and a
real daddy’s girl with Andy now and hardly leaves his side – I’m happy to
take 2nd place in his affections! Our parents also treat her as their
precious granddaughter! With her great temperament and boost in confidence,
she has many admirers. Everyone we meet can’t believe that she was a rescue
but it’s makes her extra special to us. We love her to bits and it’s so
rewarding seeing her progress and the total loyalty and devotion she has for
us. Hope our pics do her justice!
Many
thanks to Janice and the Midland & Northern club for helping us bring Ellie
into our lives. We will always be eternally grateful!
