01.12.20132013 Christmas Dinner Appeal

For many today is the First Day of Christmas, the Season of Good Will and no better a day to launch the 2013 Christmas Dinner Appeal.

For our Rescue Ridgebacks, Christmas Day can prove to be a lonely time. However, with your help we hope to be able to provide them with a special treat on the big day!

Check out the Christmas Dinner Appeal Form here, you will see that a single food bowl may be filled for as little as 50p, and you can fill as many as you like!

Each filled bowl will be entered into a prize draw, with the first bowl drawn wining a Doggy Christmas Hamper donated by Millies Wolfheart, Details Here, and the second drawn wining a cash prize of £30.00.

SantaDonations may be made as per the Appeal Form, but for the first time, and for those who would prefer, it is now possible to make your donation and entry through Virgin Money Giving. Just ensure you tick "I'd like to leave a message" then type "Christmas Dinner" together with the number of filled bowls you are donating in the message box. The rest will be done behind the scenes, as if by magic!

The Draw will be held on 16th January 2014 at Manchester Championship Show, but donations are always welcome.

So, there you have it. Wouldn't it be lovely, for the sake of our Rescue Dogs, for us all to assume the mantel of Santa Claus on Christmas Day!

20.11.2013A Quiz Night in Support of Rescue!

A Quiz night was held on Saturday 26th October 2013 at the Normanton-On-Soar Village Hall.

A total of 12 teams racked their brains for answers at our first Fundraising Quiz Night at Normanton-on-Soar in Nottinghamshire, leaving mentally exhausted but happy after a heap of savoury nibbles and a few trips to the bar! A display of a large number of generously donated prizes encouraged frantic sales of raffle tickets, helping to swell our profit from the evening to £274 – a welcome contribution to the Trust’s coffers.

Feedback was so positive that the next Quiz Night is already booked for 26th April 2014. We are still refining the quiz package but if anyone out there would like to pick it up and use it locally we will be only too happy to help - and if you are not too far away we may even be able to come along and guide you through a Quiz Night of your own to help raise even more funds. Just get in touch via geoff@ridgebackrescue.co.uk

The aim of the Space Dogs Yellow Ribbon Campaign and Charity is to have a visible sign that dogs should have their right to personal space respected, just like we do and that some dogs would appreciate a little space, this can mean from both dogs and/or people, a yellow ribbon is worn on the lead to signify this.

07.01.2013
LilyIt is with great sadness that we report, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer, Rosie Bates has been taken from us; she passed away peacefully at home yesterday, 6th January 2013. Rosie had played an integral role in all aspects of the Gunthwaite and Burncote Kennels.

A keen supporter of rescue for the breed she loved, she was very much the artist that so beautifully decorated the cake, annually presented by her family at the Rescue Show. Her artistry was also evident in her photography, and the many photographs taken at shows at which she was able to attend.

Our heartfelt condolences to Julie, Joe, Ann and David; Rosie will be sorely missed.

Rosie's Funeral Service and Cremation will take place at 11.10am on Thursday 31st January 2013 at Pontefract Crematorium, Wakefield Road, Pontefract, West Yorkshire WF8 4HA. Her family has requested for donations to Cancer Research in lieu of flowers.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Breed Council

The Breed Council representing all four Rhodesian Ridgeback Clubs in Britain meets twice a year to discuss all Rhodesian Ridgeback related issues. Its function is to collate the collective views of all clubs and present them to The Kennel Club. News of The Breed Council activities will be posted as available.

Discover Dogs

Discover Dogs is becoming increasingly popular. In future on ridgeback day at Crufts, the stand will be manned, and ridgebacked, by some of our Rescue Rhodesian Ridgebacks (check out their stories). We also attend Discover Dogs at Earls Court, London, in November and in May we represent Rhodesian Ridgebacks at the "All About Dogs" exhibition in Essex. We always need people to help with these events so if you would care to volunteer your services for a couple of hours it will alleviate the strain on the regulars who do a full days stint, which is unfair on their Ridgebacks. With hundreds of people milling around asking questions, some sensible, some ridiculous, even Ridgebacks get tired out. As long as your dog is "bombproof" and you like talking (and lets face it what RR owner doesn't) Please offer to help.
