17.04.2012Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue has now morphed into the Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Support and Trust, a UK Registered Charity! While our objectives are broadly the same as before, we are now more clearly defining the support aspect of the work we do, as detailed below.

The objectives of the charity are to provide appropriate care, protection, treatment, security and support for Rhodesian Ridgebacks;  to relieve suffering and distress and where necessary to find suitable permanent new homes for  such animals; and to educate and advise both Rhodesian Ridgeback owners and the wider public  in matters pertaining to the health, welfare and the prevention of cruelty and suffering of these  dogs in the Midlands and Northern areas of England.

The Charity will be administered by a Board of Trustees, details of whom are published under the menu item "The Charity"

We hope that all club members and interested parties will fervently support this new charity as they have the Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue in the past. One other thing, no need to panic, Janice is still the Rescue Co-ordinator!!

08.03.2012Walking DogAutumn Sponsored Walk in aid of Rescue - Sunday 16th September 2012

Do you fancy a gentle stroll in the mellow fruitfulness of mid September, among the ever changing colours of Autumn, in the Beautiful Moss Valley? Followed perhaps with a cosy lunch in any one of a number of local hostelries!!

There are no mountains to climb just a nice steady walk for a couple of hours, but there is an escape route; a short cut for those who would prefer an easier and shorter walk!!

HostelryIf this sounds appealing, why not come along with (or without) your dog and at the same time help raise some money to aid our less fortunate charges. The walk begins at 11.00am Sunday 16th September 2012.

This will be our 3rd Annual Sponsored Walk, with your help we can make it the best yet!

LilyBrian Firth

We are overwhelmed by the number of cards of condolence we've received and we thank you all, your kindness and sympathy during our time of loss has given us much comfort. We are heartbroken and our only consolation is that his suffering has ended.  It is good to know that so many of you remembered Brian as a gentleman.

LilyIt is with great sadness that we received the news from France of the death of Brian Firth.

Brian, alongside his wife Sheila, served as a committee member for many years, eventually becoming vice chairman. Indeed, the whole of the Firth Family worked tirelessly for the club, which was very much appreciated by all.

We are sure that club members will join with us in offering our heartfelt condolences to Sheila and Ian at this difficult time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Breed Council

The Breed Council representing all four Rhodesian Ridgeback Clubs in Britain meets twice a year to discuss all Rhodesian Ridgeback related issues. Its function is to collate the collective views of all clubs and present them to The Kennel Club. News of The Breed Council activities will be posted as available.

Discover Dogs

Discover Dogs is becoming increasingly popular. In future on ridgeback day at Crufts, the stand will be manned, and ridgebacked, by some of our Rescue Rhodesian Ridgebacks (check out their stories). We also attend Discover Dogs at Earls Court, London, in November and in May we represent Rhodesian Ridgebacks at the "All About Dogs" exhibition in Essex. We always need people to help with these events so if you would care to volunteer your services for a couple of hours it will alleviate the strain on the regulars who do a full days stint, which is unfair on their Ridgebacks. With hundreds of people milling around asking questions, some sensible, some ridiculous, even Ridgebacks get tired out. As long as your dog is "bombproof" and you like talking (and lets face it what RR owner doesn't) Please offer to help.
