Ridgeback Rescue

A
lovely summers morning greeted everybody as they arrived at the beautiful
setting of Hendwick Hall for the annual Fun Day in support of Rescue. The
two ladies, who were guardians of entry, assured us that no rain was
forecast for the area. Everyone was looking for a shady spot under trees.
Within
an hour of proceedings beginning the monsoon arrived! The heavens opened and
needless to say the rain ran like a tap off those eagerly sought sun shading
trees. Even our umbrellas leaked!! Luckily the monsoon moved on as swiftly
has it had arrived and the sun soon came out, drying everything quickly.

The
heavy rain had made underfoot conditions wet and slippery resulting in the
games suffering a delay. The agenda for the day was re-jigged with a Rescue
Parade opening proceedings. Each Rescue Dog paraded around the ring with
their new owners while their histories were read out. This was a real tear
jerker, some of the stories were really heartbreaking but now at least each
and every one of them has a caring and loving new owner. A huge thank you to
all of the folk who take on these dogs, sometimes with problems, but are
prepared to work with them and realise happy outcomes.
Lunch
was excellent as usual, the Mackfall family all work very hard to
produce stunning food.
We were treated to an interesting demonstration of dog control followed by agility, a scurry and various games for dogs and handlers. The children enjoyed games specifically tailored for them. There were wonderful prizes offered for all events including an excellent Raffle and Tombola. Our thanks to Alex Schofield and Ann Gates for running everything in their normal seamless fashion.
Huge thanks to "Clan Mackfall" for allowing us the use of their lovely home and for the work they put in to organising the day.
This resulted in a grand total of £1,006.63 being raised for Rescue!
